Megapolis New Year festival on April 08

An event to seek blessings for the festival took place recently at Independence Square, attended by president Maithripala Sirisena, minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, deputy minister Karu Jayasuriya and others.

Applications are now invited for the megapolis prince and princess competitions. The megapolis princess will receive a cash reward of Rs. 75,000, followed by Rs. 60,000 and Rs. 50,000 for the first and second runners-up. (click here for the application) the megapolis prince will get a Rs. 60,000 cash reward, and Rs. 60,000 and Rs. 50,000 for the first and second runners-up. Both categories will have cash prices up to the 10th place.

 

Cycling (click here for the application), marathon (click here for the application) and traditional sports and entertainment events will make the festival more colourful.

The final events of the festival will be a cultural extravaganza participated by 1,200 performers, followed by a musical show that will feature Bhatiya-Santhush, Umaria Sinhawansa, Nirosha Virajini, Uresha Ravihari, Ishaq Beg, Amitha Wedisinghe, Susil Fernando, Suneera Sumanga and other Sinhala and Tamil singers.

According to results of 2017 GCE Ordinary Level released last night, 6 for the first position and 9 for the second have been observed as never before. Of the 6 who claimed first position were 5 schoolgirls and the other one was a schoolboy from Ratnapura
Seevali. Of those schoolgirls, 2 were from Gampaha Ratnavali Balika Vidyalaya.

Maithri Gunaratne begins protest march

A protest march organized by former UNP councilor Maithri Gunaratne began from Kandy town to demand the resignation of prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, before parliament takes up the no-confidence motion against him. The protestors are due to reach Colombo on April 04, the day of the debate.

Previously, Gunaratne led a march from Tangalle to expel Wickremesinghe from the UNP leadership, and was attacked in Matara with cinnamon sticks.

Pictures below show Gunaratne has prepared in advance this time, collecting cinnamon sticks to face any contingency situation. However, he is now without much of a backing such as the likes of Shiral Lakthilake, and only around 50 are participating in the march. Policemen numbering more than that are providing protection to the protestors.

SEC DG Perk over Rs. 1 Million per month

The current Director General of the SEC Vajira Wijegoonawardena is the highest ever paid government official In Sri Lanka. His salary and perks are over a staggering Rs. One Million a month plus business class travel on al least 4-6 overseas visits.
 He has done nothing positive to develop the market and is branded as a sharmer.

 He quite often mixes up issues and personalities and is not a knowledgeable and market friendly individual as to market sources.

The central bank Gouvner does not get even half of this salary nor does the Chief Justice of this Country.

Is he a blue eye boy of any Top politician or a cover up for the chairman who has failed miserably in dilivering the mandate entrusted to him to bring to book those responsible for manipulating the market..? 

It is rumored that the current chairman is vigorously canvassing to get himself and the commission reappointed so that they can finish whatever that is left of the market. 

However the President and the Minister of Finance are adamant to make a fresh appointment shortly with a few market friendly knowledgeable professionals as front runners.
