He said politicians and state officials should never cause the people to hate or ridicule them. The law will be strictly enforced against bribery and corruption, the president said.
He said that during the period he was minister and in the three years since he became the president, he took all steps to prevent bribery, corruption, fraud, wastage etc.
Speaking further, the president said he was happy that the health service has been free of bribery.
He was presented with a memento in recognition of his services to the health sector, by health minister Rajitha Senaratne and chairperson of the midwives association Devika Kodituwakku.
On the occasion, a new uniform was introduced for midwives.
