Primary investigations have revealed that someone has arranged electric cables near Theravil lake to kill this elephant. However, the culprits have not been found yet.
Residents of Pudukudiiruppu have known this elephant as Thani Dalaya (one tusked elephant). This elephant had become famous among the villagers since it used to come to villages looking for food during the drought season in Mullativu.
Wildlife officers who came to the place of death of the elephant yesterday (21) had done the funeral of the elephant in collaboration with police and villagers. They have taken the tusks with them.
Both Mullativu wildlife officers and Pudukudiiruppu police are currently conducting investigations to find the culprits.
