Another reason for their decision is that the JO’s hopes for victory at the LG polls have been dashed following the rejection of some of the nominations filed by Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna. Even Dinesh Gunawardena, who is presently overseas, has reached the president, through various parties, saying that he would be willing to crossover after he returned, if he was given a responsibility regarding the finance ministry.
Their requests have inconvenienced the president, as all of them are hoping to get ministerial positions. None of the SLFP ministers, appointed to parliament on the national list after losing at the last general election have now refused to abide by a condition to return the ministries to the party if needed. If more ministries are created that will inconvenience top government figures and that will be opposed by the UNP. Therefore, the president has decided not to accept any more MPs to the government.
