Orders food to a bogus address ... delivery boy looted!
Kahatuduwa police say that five individuals were taken into custody for having displayed a sharp knife and threatened with death and assaulting him on the occasion when a worker who was in the process of delivering food of an instant outlet by motor bicycle in Kottawa area finally looting the food brought by him to be delivered and the cash in his possession. On investigation it was revealed
that it was a parcel of food valued at over Rs, five thousand, police say.The marauders had ordered food to the value of over Rs. five thousand by telephone call to the food outlet concerned in the night a few days before in the outlet in the town of Kottawa. They had in fact given the name of a certain lonely byroad in Mattegoda and an address of a closed down house and to deliver the food there. Having ambushed the said representative who was to come on his motor bike at that house had committed this crime and taken to their heels, police say.
A police officer said that the persons who carried out this crime were taken into custody according to some information received by the officer in charge of Kahatuduwa police station, sub inspector Mr. Kamal Bandara with regard to the complaint received in this connection. The police officer further mentioned that a bag in which the looted food parcel was also containing the name of the food outlet on it was found inside the house of a person who was arrested. Police said that they would investigate to check whether these persons involved in looting of this nature were connected to looting in Kahatuduwa and the environs as well in similar crimes.
