The arrest took place a short while ago at hotel premises and the suspect has been identified as Captain Sirinath Perera.
He is accused of spreading hate speech, extremism and racism throughout social media networks, specially via Facebook.
Sources say that the ex- army officer was being acted deliberately infringing social media ethics and norms in order to get organized the youth against minorities in the country.
The suspect will be produced before court after questioning.
