Muslim youth who died after suffocation at Pallekele was an invalid 

Death suspected as homicide ... inquiries proceeding

The death of the Muslim youth found dead in a house in Pallekele area, Kandy sometime back during the period of tension in that city was considered as a case of homicide and under these circumstances police are conducting investigations.

This young man, Abdul Baasth aged 28 years

happened to be an invalid. When the house where he was living and the adjacent shop belonging to their family caught fire, his brother and his parents were able to save their lives because they were not in that location. However when they had come there to inspect the house, the body of the victim was found having died of suffocation.

It was suspected that when the house was enveloped with fire he had not been able to flee from there and had been trapped by the fire. Police  sources say that the incident was a case of homicide and investigations have been launched. A host of Important information have been received about the persons who are responsible for setting fire to both the house and adjoining house and CCTV and video footage have been made use of in this connection, police say. The said victim's dead body was found on the morning of last 6th in this house in Kengolla, Pallekele, Kandy. It was revealed that he had passed away as a result of suffocation.
