Weightlifter Chaturanga Lakman won the first medal for Sri Lanka at the 21st Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia. Contesting in the 56 kg weight category, he lifted 248 kg (114 kg snatch and 134 kg clean and jerk) to win the bronze.
Malaysia won the gold and India claimed the silver.
Sri Lankan weightlifters and swimmers are tipped to bring more medals for the country at the Games.
