The UNP WC is due to meet at Sirikotha on April 26, when the reorganizing proposals are to be handed over to the PM and the new appointments to be discussed in detail, say political sources.
Yesterday’s meeting also resulted in a decision to empower the PM with the appointment of the party’s general secretary.
Also, some of the party seniors are of the view that the new appointments should be made through a leadership council. All reached common agreement that the party should be strengthened to enable the continuation of the government until 2020. The party reorganizing will take place before the end of this month.
Meanwhile, the party has already decided on its members who should be part of the cabinet during a reshuffle expected shortly. It has decided to give ministerial positions to several backbenchers as well as some deputy ministers in consideration of their abilities. The list has already been sent to the PM.
A final decision on the cabinet will be taken once the president returns from his England visit.
