He has told the media at the party headquarters that the unity government’s term ended last August. Dissanayake said his group would extend support if the UNP carries out a populist programme. However, economic prosperity, democracy or reconciliation is not possible under PM Ranil Wickremesinghe, he said.
Dilan Perera said a two-year test ended up in failure and was rejected by the people. If the UNP wants to have its own government, there is no need to do that test again, he said.
