During the previous regime, relatives and friends of Mahinda abused state resources, also committing various illegal acts and obtaining bribes. President Maithripala Sirisena appointed the commission, headed by high court judge Preethi Padman Surasena, to inquire into those wrongdoings.
The commission, whose term ended on January 02, has handed over its final report and reports into 17 investigations. The fate of the previous reports it has handed over remains a mystery.
