Polythene prohibition strictly enforced from today the 1st ... food prices also to go up

Central Environment Authority has informed that useage of polythene 0f a high density including lunch sheets and production of related items imposed last year 2017 have been totally banned and would be in force from today (1).

Although this prohibition had taken effect from September 1st as its first phase, a period of time was
allowed to make relevant preparations in that respect. As from today, like in trading activities, using polythene for festivity activities whatsoever has been banned.

What Chairman of Central Environment Authority Professor Lal Mervin Dharmasiri said was that a search would be launched for wholesale traders marketing polythene as from today (1).  Whatever it is, the All Ceylon Polythene Producers and Recycling Association say is that no concessions promised to polythene producers by the government have so far not been given. National organiser of All Ceylon Restaurant Owners' Association, Asela Sampath says that under these circumstances food prices would be increased in future.
