Government contractor Krish Selvanayagam’s Carson Management Services has built major building and road construction projects. During the previous regime, he obtained contracts through Sajin and gave sub-contracts to Cosmos Construction owned by the former MP. In 2012, Krish gave Rs. 200 million to Sajin to complete a contract, but the latter had not done that. As the main contractor, Krish had to reinvest Rs. 200 m to complete the work. He remained silent due to the fear of Sajin’s political powers, but complained to the CID after the regime change in 2015.
The CID investigated and made submissions through B 22466/1/15 to Colombo chief magistrate’s court. A case has been filed against Sajin under clause four of the money laundering act. He was arrested, remanded and subsequently given bail. Recently, he has gone and threatened Krish, demanding that he admitted that the CID had forced the statements out from him and that he no longer remembered the said financial dealings. As he was threatened that a Rajapaksa regime will be formed soon, Krish did not complain again.
However, the CID got to know it through a third party and investigated. It is seeking the advice of the Attorney General’s Department to file a motion early next year, inform courts about the threat and get the bail for Sajin cancelled.
Sajin has given Krish a helicopter owned by his Cosmos Aviation. The helicopter had been obtained through a loan from LOLC, but Sajin has not paid the installments. He has given the helicopter to Krish telling him to use it for his tourism businesses, and obtained Rs. 20 million from him, at the rate of Rs. five million per month.
