Miss Universe crown to South Africa -- Christina Pieris of Sri Lanka among the final 16
It was Demile Nelpieterz who represented South Africa and clinched the 2017 crown (Miss Universe) last 26th which event was held at Las Vegas in America. It is of special importance to record that Christina Peiris who represented Sri
Lanka in this contest was placed among the last 16 contestants who entered the semi-finals.No contestant who represented Sri Lanka after year 1955 had reached the semi-finals in a Miss Universe contest and Christina Peiris achieving that status is indeed something of note. Maureen Hingert who represented Sri Lanka in year 1955 claimed third position in Miss Universe contest.
Christina who was born in Ratmalana has had her education upto grade 9 at Bambalapitiya Holy Family Convent and later had proceeded to live in Abu Dhabi with members of her family. At present she is 23 years of age.
