The president has informed Weerakumara about his decision. But, the MP has promptly said he could not work with a person like Sagala Ratnayake, noting that he was using the prime minister’s powers. He asked that he be given another ministry.
In reply, the president told him, “That exactly is why I am appointing you to that position. I am appointing you as my man. You take my powers and act. Then, things will work out.” Weerakumara agreed to the suggestion.
The president has been unhappy about the conduct of minister Ratnayake as well as the IGP, and has decided to appoint a person capable of handling matters. Through Weerakumara, the president will be able to intervene in affairs of that ministry.
