70th Anniversary of Sri Lanka’s Independence celebrated in Afghanistan

Hon. Dr. Nasir Ahmad Andisha, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs was the Chief guest of the event while General Iqbal Ali Naderi, Assistant Minister of Defense and Ambassadors of Russia, China, India, Korea and Indonesia graced the occasion along with a few Sri Lankan expatriates, living in Afghanistan. 

The national anthems of both Sri Lanka and Afghanistan were played in addition to observing two minutes of silence to commemorate those who sacrificed their lives for the motherland. 

Messages of H.E the President, Hon Prime Minister and Hon Minister of Foreign Affairs were read out. 

A brief speech was delivered by the Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Afghanistan on the importance of relations between the two countries with emphasis on agreements on trade, air services and facilitation of training programs for Afghanistan etc. 

The chief guest delivered a speech focusing on the strengthening of bilateral cooperation.  

Promotional materials, on trade and tourism were showcased while Ceylon tea and a lapel pin with the two national flags were given away to each participant.  

The Embassy also hosted the invitees to a Sri Lankan style lunch.
