The UNP had come to a decision by yesterday that they would establish a government by themselves. Today discussions have already been held. The President and the Prime Minister decided to form a committee at the cabinet meeting today. However, the committee has not been established yet and the UNP and SLFP cabinet ministers have expressed their concern at this.
The discussion on forming a UNP government, which has since been considered by the SLFP and whether to support the government of Ranil Wickremesinghe. However they have not yet reached a definite decision. Although a SLFP group would support the formation of a government by the UNP, the President has said that he will not allow any ministerial portfolios to be given to the SLFP.
Meanwhile,the SLFP has proposed that Anura Dissanayake of the be appointed as the Opposition leader. It is reported that the SLPP has raised their concerns for this proposal.
However, the president is expected to make a special statement tomorrow.
