They discussed radical changes in view of the outcome of the mini-polls as well. As the first step, an immediate cabinet reshuffle is likely. Minister Rajitha Senaratne coordinated the discussion after meeting the two leaders earlier in the day.
According to the election results, the Mahinda faction has polled 44.38 per cent of the votes. In comparison, Maithri, Ranil and JVP altogether have 51.83 pc. In 2015, Mahinda gained 47.58 pc. This means a small reduction in his votes. In the meantime, Maithri, Ranil and JVP maintained or recorded a small improvement from their 51.28 pc in 2015.
Also, the UPFA and the UNP can get together and form administrations in167 LG bodies. All these came under discussion at yesterday’s meeting.
