The Head of the Import Unit of the Chamber Nishan Nanayakkara said signs of the value of the rupee decreasing further are showing.
Yesterday the buying rate of the US Dollar was recorded at 152 rupees and 89 cents while the selling rate was 156 rupees and 67 cents.
Nanayakkara noted the decrease of the value of the rupee due to the current political crisis could also affect the economy.
He further stated under current circumstances money sent by foreign employers is not sufficient to settle the sales deficit within the country.
Nishan Nanayakkara added although this situation could be advantageous for exports it could affect imports such as the textile industry which work with imported raw marterials.
