Car topples into an oya in Talawakelle -- 24 year old boy and girl both embrace death -- stuck inside because doors were in locked position!
A motor car travelling on a road some 200 feet high and close to Agra Oya in Bearville, Talawakelle had instantly twisted off the road and had rolled on to the lake. A young couple who were inside the vehicle had died as a result.
This particular incident had taken place in Bearville
area in Talawakelle on the Hatton - Nuwara Eliya main road belonging to Lindula police area. The said vehicle which was of a red colour had been heading towards Gampaha across Hatton from the direction of Nuwara Eliya around 3 in the afternoon and had deviated from the road and in the process rolled down into Agra Oya, a branch of the Kotmale reservoir which incidentally was situated about 200 feet down. Those around had observed the horrified scene. The vehicle has thus sunk in the waters and the police who arrived on the scene had mediated in this instance and had made an attempt to rescue the bodies of those inside the vehicle.Lindula police who strived to recover the bodies have said that they finally had managed to recover the two dead bodies. The female who lost her life in this incident was one Piyumishan Prasadi Perera who was 24 years old and has been identified as a resident of No. 65, Nedungamuwa, Gampaha. However, there still is no evidence to confirm the identity of the dead boy as such.
The two dead bodies are presently lying at the government hospital in Lindula. Police further say that the side doors of the motor vehicle which so toppled were in a locked position at the moment of the mishap. Reason for the accident has still not been revealed. Police to conduct further investigations in ths connection.
