The SLFP and the SLPP have each won four LG bodies there, but have no majority to form administrations. MP Roshan Ranasinghe said his party would no strike deals with the party that has won the highest seats.
SLFP sources say the SLFP will form the administrations and that discussions are underway with the UNP for a compromise on appointing chairmen from the SLFP and deputy chairmen from the UNP. UNP sources say a grassroots level decision has been taken to ally with the SLPP, allowing it to have the chairmen and for the UNP to have the deputy chairmen positions. However, the final decision is now likely lying with the president.
