Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says it is an obligation of the councilors to ensure that the Colombo city is developed. He was speaking yesterday (19) at Temple Trees where first mayoress Rosie Senanayake and other UNP member of the Colombo municipal council took their oaths.
Advising them to fulfill the people’s expectations, he said he wanted to see a developed Colombo city with its problems resolved. Most of its population comprises the poor and middle class, whose infrastructure needs to be developed. Noting that they were elected to represent their electorate, the PM told the new members to meet the people and give solutions to their problems.
He noted the UNP always remained committed to development. The central government will provide the resources for the services expected by the people. Colombo city has a dengue problem as well as a garbage disposal problem, which need to be solved effectively.
The PM asked the new members to ensure a better living for the Colombo residents.
