Senasinghe has also given a warning at the working committee that if no party reforms are introduced before the no-confidence motion, he will have to take a decision. He also said the UNP should field a candidate under its elephant symbol at the 2020 presidential election.
However, Wickremesinghe got his wishes done and the WC decided to defeat the no-confidence motion and to conclude party reforms within two months.
Range Bandara and Senasinghe can now take their political decision – that is either to support or abstain at the vote on the no-confidence motion. However, his claim of support by 27 UNP MPs is unbelievable.
Both have had connections with the Rajapakas even during the previous regime. Range Bandara once went with his family to Temple Trees and met Mahinda Rajapaksa. It is no secret that Senasinghe too, had secret links with Namal Rajapaksa. It is foolish to believe that 27 UNP others will side with them.
