Probe into if Indian doctors hold unauthorized clinics in NE

The health ministry says it has drawn its attention to media reports to the effect that Indian doctors are holding unauthorized clinics in the north and the east. It says foreign doctors should compulsorily registered with the Sri Lanka Medical Council before holding any medical clinics. The provincial and regional directors of health are being made aware of such clinics, and they will permit and supervise them.

Pursuant to the media reports, the ministry’s investigation unit has been instructed in writing by acting director general of health services Dr. Sarath Amunugama to hold an inquiry. He says the next course of action will be decided on the basis of the inquiry’s outcome.
