Health minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne says it is not surprising that the GMOA is now opposing a project for cleaning hospital clothing in the western province after it opposed the Indian-aided ambulance service.
He was speaking yesterday (19) at the foundation laying for an Rs. 700 million accident service and surgical ward theatre complex at the Gampola Base Hospital.
Senaratne said the Indian company involved in the project would hand over the machinery, together with modern technology, to the Health Ministry after 15 years. Earlier, the GMOA opposed the ambulance service, which will now be expanded countrywide. That service has nothing to do with the proposed ETCA, he said.
Former prime minister D.M. Jayaratne, deputy minister Anuradha Jayaratne and provincial health minister Bandula Yalegama were among those present.
