Government MP Mujibur Rahuman, who is striving for national unity and reconciliation, stresses in an interview that at least now, the government should enter the path to realize its promise of eliminating racism and religious extremism.
Govt. failed to bring about reconciliation
Despite being a party that promotes liberalism, the UNP has failed to defeat racism and religious extremism. It is clear the party has not paid attention to inquire into extremist acts and enforce the law against the same.
As Rahuman says, the country’s leaders are yet to become sensitive to the danger signals.
I made five, six complaints. Nobody cared
All these happened despite there being a reconciliation secretariat under the president and the former president too. Don’t they understand what the racists do? Don’t they understand that they were setting fire underhand? Amith Weerasinghe’s office had been there for about three to four years. Cannot govern like this
The MP says the government is to be blamed if there has been any neglect on the part of the police and the law enforcement sections. The government should be able to control the police and the military. Rahuman says it should be found out where the wrong had been committed.
