Being a military leader, Gotabhaya is not suitable for a position that is appointed through people’s vote, according to him.
The former defence secretary has already started a campaign to target 2020, with Viyath Maga being its key operational arm. Most of the persons involved are the military officers who worked with him during the final stages of the war. Vasudeva’s fears shows that if Gotabhaya becomes the president by any chance, his rule will be a military one, rather than democratic. Furthermore, even the JO’s leaders are not prepared to accept Gota as a democratic ruler. A majority in the Rajapaksa family too, are against him for other reasons.
