The Disaster Management Center said that 55,553 people belonging to 14,265 families have been displaced and are being kept at 265 safe locations.
This disaster situation has developed due to the flooding of Ging Ganga, Kelani River, Deduru Oya, Maha Oya, Attanagalu Oya, Kalu Ganga and Nilwala. The sluice gates of the Kotmale reservoir, Thabbowa reservoir, Deduru Oya, Rajanganaya and Muruthawela were also opened.
Disaster Management Center says that relief to all affected people is being carried out and the services of the armed forces and police are continuing.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department said that south-west monsoon is still suppressed by the persisting wind circulations and is expected to settled by end of this week.
