Gotabhaya made the remarks in the presence of his brother, Mahinda, who ruled the country for 10 years. Either he must have forgotten as to what had happened during that period or he must be thinking the people have forgotten that past.

Also, he is now saying all should respect the law, after getting the police and the armed forces members to commit various crimes, including abductions, murders etc, during the Rajapaksa rule.
