The cause of death of children in Karapitiya is pneumonia!

Doctor Aruna de Silva, pediatrician at Karapitiya teaching hospital, says that the cause of death has been discovered and it is an acute pneumonia.

The most critical issue is that this pneumonia mostly affects children below the age of 3. During the past few months, many child patients have been reported from Matara, Hambanthota and Tangalle. Currently many child patients are receiving treatments for this illness at Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.

The doctor further mentioned that this pneumonia condition is caused by viruses called influenza and adino. Aruna de Silva requests general public to be vigilant to protect their children from this disease. He further requests parents to keep their children at home as much as possible if they indicate signs of cough, cold, fever or diarrhea.
