According to him, state officials are trying to show that the government did not give anything to those people. Marikkar said that reports by officials say only around 400 people were in displaced camps in Kolonnawa, but in actual fact, more than 5,000 have been displaced in the past four days. Only those in camps are given food, but no water for them.
He said the government was not acting with a backbone. He said that he has informed the premier that he would resign as co-chairman of the Kolonnawa coordinating committee if the government failed to take action against the errant officials.
