She is the wife of Australian investor Brian Shaddick, whose 4.1 million shares in Pan Asia Bank were sold by Gammanpila by faking an attorney license, according to the charges filed against him in several ongoing court cases.
Janet Shaddick said that the political situation before 2015 did not allow them to seek legal redress, and that they came forward for justice only thereafter. However, the fixing of the dates for the hearing is inconvenient for them, she said, adding that her husband was disappointed and become helpless due to the law’s delays.
She said travelling to Sri Lanka to appear for the court cases and staying in the island was costly for them, and expressed fears that it would take 10 to 15 years to see the conclusion of the cases.
Together with one Sydney Jayasinghe, Gammanpila had unlawfully sold the PABC shares, causing a seven million dollar loss for them, she said. Shaddick’s attorney license holder Lasitha Perera said such incidents would discourage foreign investors from coming into the country.
