Polgampola was elected for parliament as a JVP MP and was later removed because he was accused of supporting illegally emigration using his MP powers. Later on he worked closely with Basil Rajapaksa and during the presidential election, he worked for Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Afterwards, he joined Maithripala Sirisena for the last provincial election and was appointed as the chairman of the State Timber Corporation. However, the president had to remove him from the position of chairman due to protests from various parties including JVP.
Anuruddha Polgampola had obtained a contract to supply soil for development projects under Northern Spring (Uthuru Wasanthaya). He had defrauded 8 million rupees and given dishonored checks. The soil suppliers had filed a court case against him at Killinochchi Court and Polgampola was in remand for several months after being arrested.
He was released on bail but avoided the court continuously. As reported, he was arrested by the CID for avoiding the court.
He was arrested by Miriihana Special Investigation Unit in 2017 for a financial fraud. Furthermore, he has been accused of several other financial frauds as well.
As reported, he has been appointed as the chairman of State Timber Corporation on recommendation of president’s secretary Ostin Fernando. The president has understood the true nature of Polgampola after receiving strong protests from various parties.
