Carcass of an electrocuted wild-elephant exhumed

The elephant has been exhumed on a court order obtained from Thisamaharamaya Court, after the wildlife officers received information about an elephant killed and buried.

Wildlife officers suspect, based on primary investigations, that the elephant has died of electrocution by a domestic electric line, often used to catch wild boars.

Ranjith Sisira, forest guard at Yala Wildlife Office, mentioned that some electric wires and cables have been found on a nearby tree. He further stated that they have identified four suspects with regard to the murder of the elephant and immediate actions will be taken to arrest them.

The investigations are being carried out by forest guard at Yala Wildlife Office Ranjith Sisira, under the direction of Southern and Uva Region Wildlife Director Prasanna Wimaladasa and instructions of Wildlife Director General Mr. Chandana Sooriyabandara.
