His suspension comes after the Dept. failed to provide proper residential facilities for the Sri Lankan contingent to the South Asian Junior Athletics Meet that began today (05).
The 84 athletes and 15 officials were accommodated at the sports development hostel at Torrington. Since last morning, its power supply remained disrupted and by afternoon, the water supply too, was affected.
After the minister got to know about it, a generator was provided and the CEB informed. The CEB said they wanted one day to restore the supply.
The DG or other Dept. officials did not make an appearance.
Later, on the minister’s order, the athletes and their officials were taken by bus to a four-star hotel in Colombo by 9.00 pm. The minister also visited them.
