Although he was cleared by a presidential commission of allegations over the Central Bank bond scam, Karunanayake had to leave finance and accept finance, which too, was removed later. He had to face mud-slinging by the opposition on his own, say the UNP backbenchers.
There have been accusations against Rajapakshe that he was having links with the Mahinda Rajapaksa led joint opposition for some time. He once said he was ashamed to be in the government and in the cabinet. But, today, he is back.
UNP backbenchers also note that despite the animosities he was facing, Karunanayake committed himself for the party’s victory at the Colombo municipal council at the LG polls.
The MPs say they would raise this matter with the party leadership and would not abandon their struggle until justice is done for him.
