
Chairman of UNP Kabeer Hashim, assistant leader Ravi Karunanayake and Badulla district MP Chaminda Wijesiri have not attended the May Day rally due to sickness.
Ranjith Aluwihare, Daya Gamage, Palitha Range Bandara, Harsha de Silva, Sujeewa Senasinghe, Ranjan Ramanayake, Mayantha Dissanayaka and Ashoka Abeysinghe were the members who had decided to boycott the May Day rally.
Youth Affairs Minister Sagala Rathnayake has skipped the May Day rally because he was unhappy about the decision taken by Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe to appoint Akila Viraj Kariyawasam as the General Secretary.
Former Chairman Malik Samarawickrama has skipped the May Day rally since he lost the position as Chairman and due to several accusations from within the party. It is also reported that he has talked to several members of the Ruwan Wijewardhana Committee and expressed disappointment about losing his position as a result of the way in which the party’s reform was carried out.
However, it is reported that more than ten thousand persons attended UNP May Day rally held yesterday.
