8 new youth records and 41 medals at SAF !
Anil Weerasinghe, the Manager of Sri Lankan team, is of the opinion that winning 2 gold medals is a great achievement, although initially the Sri Lankan Athletes Association was aiming to win 10 gold medals from 32 games.

Sri Lankan athletes displayed their talents by establishing 4 new SAF records and winning 7 gold medals at women’s 200m, men’s 200m, men’s 400m hurdles, men’s 800m, women’s 800m, women’s 400m x 4 and 400m x 4 events. Anil Weerasinghe further mentioned that it is unfortunate that it was unable to win gold medals at men’s 100m x 4, women’s high jump and long jump.

Based on the performances, Aruna Dharshana of Akuramboda Weera Kappetipola College who took part in 400m, P.M.L. Kodikara of Maliyadewa College Kurunegala who took part in 400m and 400m hurdles and Dilshi Kumara who took part in 400m and 800m, were qualified to take part in the World Junior Athletic Championship which will be held in Finland in next July.

At the last South Asian Junior Athletic Championship held in India in 2013, Sri Lankan athletes won 10 gold medals, 10 silver medals and 14 bronze medals and they have indicated a good progress this year.
