Recently she said to the media that she will boycott the meetings attended by UNP leader. She further stated that the UNP reform is a deception and the current UNP leadership definitely must be changed. She said that it was not her personal decision and was the decision of a group of members of the party.
In the meantime, UNP backbenchers said that they will strongly oppose if disciplinary actions are taken against Hirunika Premachandra. They further said that they had to bring up internal issues with regard to party’s leadership since they did not receive proper responses to solve the issues internally, when they attempted to do so.
UNP backbenchers also said that they will take an inflexible decision if the party’s leadership attempts to silent them instead of solving issues with regard to the party’s leadership.
Many UNP MPs and members objected certain decisions with regard to the party’s leadership and appointing members for various positions within the party. A considerable number of MPs and organizers refrained from attending UNP’s May Day Rally held on the 6 th May.
