Judicature Bill passed in Parliament with amendments
The Bill was debated for the second time today and received 119 votes in favor of the Bill. 52 votes were against it. Accordingly, the majority of 67 votes were passed.
 
The Supreme Court has recently ruled that certain sections of the bill are against the Constitution and therefore a two thirds majority is needed. Accordingly, the Minister of Justice Thalatha  Athukorala has been amended.
